Stress arises in response to internal or external challenges, events, or pressures, particularly during adolescence—a transitional phase from childhood to adulthood. The adoption of a healthy lifestyle plays a crucial role in mitigating physical health issues and, consequently, contributes to effective stress management. Clinical studies indicate that engaging in vigorous physical activity is linked to lower stress levels in adolescents.
In accordance with the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) standard treatment guidelines, the following recommendations are advised for promoting a healthy lifestyle and managing stress in adolescents:
- Engage in a minimum of 45 minutes of substantial physical activity or exercise daily. Physical exercise triggers the release of endorphins, fostering a sense of happiness and enhancing neuronal activity.
- Prioritize sufficient and quality sleep by establishing good sleep routines. Adequate sleep promotes the release of neurotransmitters that aid in stress management.
- Embrace dietary habits that include a nutritious breakfast and maintain a balanced diet. Limit the consumption of caffeine and junk food to promote overall well-being and stress resilience.
