The 59-year-old cosmonaut exceeded the previous record held by his compatriot Gennady Padalka, who spent 878 days, 11 hours, 29 minutes, and 48 seconds in space. Oleg Kononenko is anticipated to reach the milestone of 1,000 days in space on June 5.
