Three students earned a prize of $700,000 (equivalent to ₹5.8 crore) for employing artificial intelligence to translate a 2,000-year-old charred scroll known as the Herculaneum papyri. These scrolls were buried in the library of a luxurious villa in Herculaneum following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Italy nearly two millennia ago. Youssef Nader, Luke Farritor, and Julian Schilliger emerged victorious after deciphering text equivalent to approximately 5% of an entire scroll.
