On Thursday, the Supreme Court dismissed Vedanta Limited’s request to resume operations at its Sterlite Copper facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The court cited the “recurrent nature of infractions” and the “seriousness of the violations” as reasons for its ruling. The state government had closed the plant in 2018 due to breaches of environmental regulations.
