Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a warning on Monday, April 29, urging people to remain vigilant against the proliferation of fake news on social media. Stressing the importance of caution, Modi accused the opposition of leveraging technology to produce counterfeit videos and disseminate misinformation using AI (Artificial Intelligence).
He alleged, “Those who were defeated in elections are resorting to technology to fabricate videos and AI to spread false information.”
Speaking at his election rally in Bagalkote, Karnataka, Modi highlighted the prevalence of information flow through platforms like WhatsApp and X (formerly Twitter). He cautioned against blindly forwarding messages and videos without verification.
Reflecting on his significant following on social media, Modi stated, “Being an early adopter of social media, I’ve connected with people and used it for societal betterment.”
Continuing his critique of the opposition, Modi lamented the propagation of misinformation in his voice, citing an incident during the 2023 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections where Amitabh Bachchan’s voice was misused.
He urged citizens to report fake videos to his party or the authorities, assuring punitive measures against offenders. Modi underscored the urgency for vigilance, asserting, “In their desperation to win elections, the opposition resorts to such tactics; it’s crucial for you to stay vigilant.”
Additionally, Modi accused the opposition of scheming to introduce religion-based reservations for political gain, vowing to prevent such a move. He criticized the Congress for allegedly attempting to amend the Constitution to benefit minorities at the expense of SC/ST and OBC communities.
Emphasizing BJP’s support from SC, ST, and OBC groups, Modi pledged to safeguard their rights and reservations. He assured, “I will not allow Congress’ intentions to succeed; I will go to any lengths to protect your rights.”
