In the third Test against England, Ravindra Jadeja played a crucial role by scoring a much-needed century in the first innings. The 35-year-old all-rounder’s achievement was celebrated as a happy homecoming, as he reached his fourth Test century in front of his home fans at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.
Jadeja partnered with skipper Rohit Sharma, who also reached a significant milestone by scoring his 11th century in red-ball cricket. Facing 198 balls, Jadeja hit 7 fours and 2 sixes to reach this milestone in his career. Notably, Jadeja was promoted in the batting order and he seized the opportunity to achieve a century.
The partnership between Rohit and Jadeja surpassed 200 runs, placing the Ben Stokes-led team in a challenging position. Despite a shaky start for the host nation with Yashasvi Jaiswal (10), Shubman Gill (0), and Rajat Patidar (5) falling early to the rival bowlers, Rohit and Jadeja managed to weather the storm. Both players survived some close calls before settling into their innings.
Rohit displayed his trademark shots with ease, while Jadeja focused on accumulating singles and doubles to maintain the momentum of the innings.
