On Wednesday, Russia’s financial watchdog Rosfinmonitoring included the renowned chess icon Garry Kasparov in its list of terrorists and extremists. Kasparov, aged 60 and a former world chess champion, has been a vocal critic of President Vladimir Putin for many years. Human rights organizations argue that this designation serves as yet another method for the Russian government to suppress dissenting voices.
