Sky Brown, the youngest professional skateboarder globally, was born on July 12, 2005, in Japan. Although born in Japan, she represents Great Britain in her sporting endeavors. Apart from being a skilled skateboarder, she’s also an accomplished dancer, having emerged victorious in the American television show Dancing with the Stars: Juniors in 2018. Brown’s journey with skateboarding began at the tender age of 4, under the guidance of her father. By the age of 8, she was already participating in significant events like the Vans US Open in 2016, marking the commencement of her professional career.
In 2017, Brown secured the second spot at the Asian Continental Finals, and by 2018, she earned the distinction of being the youngest professional skateboarder globally, coinciding with her triumph on the American dance program, which further elevated her fame. Notably, Brown is sponsored by Nike, becoming the youngest athlete ever to be sponsored by the renowned sports brand.
However, her journey hasn’t been devoid of challenges. In 2019, Brown opted to represent Great Britain due to the nature of the British Skateboarding Association. Unfortunately, in 2020, a severe accident during training in California left her with multiple skull and hand fractures, halting her progress for over a year. Despite the setback, Brown remained resolute in her passion for skating, returning to the sport in 2021.
Brown attributes much of her success to her parents, acknowledging their unwavering support. At just 13 years and 28 days old, she made history as the youngest medalist from Great Britain in the Olympics, clinching bronze in the women’s park skateboarding event at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Beyond skateboarding, Brown has also ventured into surfing.
Additionally, she manages a YouTube channel called ‘Sky and Ocean’, where she shares videos of her skateboarding and surfing adventures, further showcasing her talent and inspiring countless enthusiasts worldwide.
