In a compelling interview with Aaj Tak’s Chitra Tripathi just before filing his nomination from Varanasi, Prime Minister Modi reflected on the previous year’s G20 Delhi summit, stating, “I had already made the decision not to confine the G20 to Modi.” With the Lok Sabha elections 2024 in full swing, both the Congress and BJP, India’s two national parties, are vigorously campaigning through impactful speeches and rallies.
As three phases have already passed, the fourth phase is particularly crucial, especially for PM Narendra Modi, who is contesting from Varanasi for the third consecutive time. Prior to submitting his nomination papers, PM Modi took time for a candid interview with Aaj Tak’s Chitra Tripathi, expressing confidence in Uttar Pradesh’s support and belief that the state will continue to stand by him despite this being his third candidacy.
When questioned about Congress’ position in Uttar Pradesh, he expressed doubt that they would gain traction in the state this time around. PM Modi also critiqued his competitor Rahul Gandhi’s decision to contest from Rae Bareli after leaving his current Wayanad seat in Kerala, questioning his choice and criticizing his language in speeches, suggesting that Kerala had taught him tough lessons.
On the topic of dynasty politics, PM Modi highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s aversion to it, pointing out the public’s rejection of leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav in state elections, while crediting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership for transformative changes in the state.
In terms of governance, PM Modi praised CM Yogi Adityanath’s dedication and commitment to Uttar Pradesh’s development, emphasizing the importance of BJP governance for the state’s prosperity.
Regarding Sharad Pawar’s statement about small parties merging with Congress, PM Modi interpreted it as an acknowledgment of Congress’s inability to lead a viable opposition and suggested that Pawar sees the merger as a means to strengthen the opposition.
Reflecting on the G20 summit held in New Delhi last year, PM Modi explained that the goal was to showcase India’s diversity. He described his decision to expand the scope of the summit beyond Delhi and himself, bringing it to multiple cities across the country to allow decision-makers from around the world to experience India’s diversity firsthand.
PM Modi also shared the valuable lessons he learned from his mother, emphasizing the importance of integrity, honesty, and compassion towards the less fortunate as the foundation of a principled life.
