Madhavi Latha, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat, called upon the Election Commission of India (ECI) to organize a fresh round of voting for the Parliamentary constituency due to alleged extensive rigging. Additionally, she faced charges from the Malakpet police for electoral infractions on May 13, the day of the election.
On May 13, Madhavi Latha sparked controversy when videos emerged showing her requesting Muslim women in burkhas to reveal their faces for identification purposes. This incident drew criticism on social media, leading to her being booked by the Hyderabad district Electoral Officer on the same day. The BJP candidate further asserted that in the final hour of voting on May 13, there was a sudden surge in turnout, with 12 percent reported. She accused the AIMIM party of engaging in large-scale rigging with the assistance of local authorities and officials at polling stations.
Hyderabad recorded approximately 48 percent voter turnout during the Lok Sabha elections on Monday. Madhavi Latha vowed to take all necessary measures to ensure that the Election Commission of India orders a re-polling in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency to ensure a fair and impartial election process.
